Mario Banushi’s MAMI European Tour

Following its highly acclaimed North American premiere at NYU Skirball (which ran from January 7–10, 2026, as a cornerstone of the Under the Radar Festival), Mario Banushi’s Mami expanded its global footprint, establishing the 27-year-old Greek-Albanian director as a dominant new voice in international avant-garde theater

Remaining international tour dates for the performance through the rest of 2026 include:
    • October 7, 2026 – Dublin, Ireland: Irish debut at the Pavilion Theatre as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival.
    • November 12–13, 2026 – Berlin, Germany: German premiere on the Main Stage at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.
The inclusion of nudity is an artistic and thematic element used to explore the raw, vulnerable, and caregiving aspects of the mother-child relationship.
Critics and production notes highlight the following details regarding the nudity in the show:
  • Artistic Purpose: The performance is a wordless, image-driven “visual poem”. Early scenes feature striking, literal imagery of caregiving—such as a young man undressing an older woman to change her diaper—using the human body to portray aging, tenderness, and dependency.
  • Frequent Use: The production features six performers who are frequently naked as they move through physical tableaux, blending a bodily, near-sacramental aesthetic with themes of memory and family inheritance.
  • Age Rating: Due to the explicit nature of the performance, which includes full nudity, violence, and intense sensory effects (like smoke and incense), the show is strictly recommended for audiences aged 16 and older.
