TONY Winner: Jonathan Groff

Jonathan Groff is the 2024  Tony Winner for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical.

Groff won for his role as Franklin in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along.

He starred with Daniel Radcliffe – who also won a Tony for his performance – and Lindsay Mendez.

The musical tells the story of three friends – Franklin, Charley and Mary – starting at their disillusioned middle age and travelling backwards to their youthful optimism when they first meet on the rooftop of an apartment building in New York City.

Groff  gained fame for his recurring guest star role in the Fox musical-comedy series Glee, as Jesse St James.

Jonathan is an openly gay actor and singer/songwriter. In 2010 he starred in the movie ‘Twelve Thirty’ and was fully nude. What an amazing frontal performance it was!

Hopefully he will be back on Broadway soon for a new musical about Bobby Darin, the 1950s-’60s-era singer who scored hits with “Mack the Knife,” “Dream Lover” and “Beyond The Sea,”.
