Review: Sabbath’s Theater

I was entertained highly when I saw SABBATH THEATER mainly because of the performances of veterans John Turturro, Elizabeth Marvel and Jason Kravits not by the play itself.
The play as presented in its current form is a series of scenes that showcased the talents of the cast. It does not seem to be a full pledged play though. And as John admitted in one of his interviews. They remained faithful to Roth’s novel and has not changed a word. Which I think is the source of the problem.
Play as a medium requires certain elements to capture the essence of time and space and present it to the audience to capture their attention.
I was also expecting at least a puppet on stage. Sabbath was suppose to be a puppeteer. It would have been nice to see him at least one scene carrying a puppet.
But it was still an entertaining evening. I am a big fan of John and it’s nice to see him fully nude at the end of the play. No inhibitionsin a well lit stage . You can see everything he has to offer. It was great to see his big cock head close up.
