Mariano Mattos Martins in Os Sertões: The War

Mariano Mattos Martins is a Brazilian actor known for Netflix series THE CHOSEN ONE. It follows three young shepherds, who travel to a village in the Bethlehem in Israel to vaccinate their sheep against a new mutation of the Zika virus.

Well Mariano is also a stage actor in Brazil. He was a part of the  Brazilian theater company called Teatro Oficina, headed by director Zé Celso. Their plays are famous for containing nudity and eroticism by the entire cast.  Here he is in the play “Os Sertões: The War,” a free and quite “modern” adaptation of Euclides da Cunha’s Os Sertões (The Backlands), about a war in Canudos, in 1887. In this particular scene he does a monologue about violence, life and death while masturbating.

How amazing that they do this in Brazil! Wow! Thank you to one of our readers who gave me the tip!

  1. Thanks for the clip! Love seeing these performers by Teatro Oficina! They are so full of nudity (some even have the audience join in and strip down). Wish we had something similar in the US

  2. I just realized the blog post about Transverse Orientation is on the old blog so I will post a quick review here. Really enjoyed this show, another interesting and challenging piece by Dimitris Papaioannou. Some parts did drag a little but all in all enjoyable. There was a cast of six men and two women and all get fully naked, some multiple times. The big nude scene is a little over halfway through and involves the cast stripping down and balancing on giant blocks. One of the male performers also has a scene where he is slowly stripped of a wetsuit though it’s unfortunately staged on the very front of stage so folks in the orchestra may need to stretch their necks a bit (the rest of the scenes are easily viewed). Finally two of the male performers (including the one on the main poster) have lengthy nude scenes, about ten minutes each. Granted sometimes they are partially blocked by props or other performers but there are a lot of clear views as well. Tickets are still available though mostly seats on the far sides
Still was definitely worth heading out to Brooklyn for!
