Columbia University MFA in Directing 2023 Plays

Aspart of Columbia University’s MFA in Directing, their students stage full pledged plays.

I have gone to some of it in the past and I must say, the caliber of the plays are very well made.

Due to COVID, they have restricted access to the public. But this year, they are allowing I guess limited public access. But the tickets are free.

I am bringing this up because in the past I had the opportunities to see male nudity in their plays. And they don’t hold back.  Base on the synopses, these two upcoming plays sound good to me.

CUCK, CUCK, BULL

Synopsis:

Bushwick gays Danny and Ike are getting married! But they’re running out of time to decide what that means. When a confident third introduces them to fresh sexual dynamics, their growing secrets threaten to tear them apart. Perhaps literally.
Cuck, Cuck, Bull is a new traumedy by Spencer Whale about losing your way in the endless labyrinth of the Internet. This outrageous exploration of a modern queer subculture explores the dark side of mainstream acceptance and to what lengths couples will go to maintain a sense of the taboo.

BOTICELLI IN THE FIRE

Columbia University School of the Arts presents Botticelli in the Fire, a directing thesis production by current student Dmitri Barcomi.

“They’re going to kill you. They’re going to worship you, don’t get me wrong. But they are going to kill you.”

Playboy painter Sandro Botticelli has it all: talent, fame, good looks. He also has the ear – and the wife – of Lorenzo de Medici, as well as Florence’s hottest young apprentice, Leonardo.

While working on his breakthrough commission, The Birth of Venus, Botticelli’s devotion to pleasure and beauty is put to the ultimate test. As plague sweeps through the city, the charismatic friar Girolamo Savonarola starts to stoke the fires of dissent against the liberal elite. Botticelli finds the life he knows breaking apart, forcing him to choose between love and survival.
