American Idol’s David Hernandez to star in the return of NAKED BOYS SINGING in NYC

American Idol contestant David Hernandez, who starred in the Las Vegas production of Naked Boys Singing!, will return to the musical revue that celebrates male nudity when it reopens Off-Broadway starting March 18 at the AMT Theater. It plays Saturdays only.

Additional casting for the musical will be announced at a later date.

Hernandez gained national attention when he was eliminated from the seventh season of American Idol when his past as a stripper came to light. He subsequently released the hit single “Beautiful,” and his latest recording is titled Don’t @ Me.

The original Off-Broadway production, which opened July 22, 1999, at the Actors Playhouse, played a total of 3,069 performances at various venues around the city, including New World Stages, Theatre 4, The John Houseman Theater, the 47th Street Theatre, and the Julia Miles Theatre.

  1. I just saw an add for Waiting In The Wings off bway and thought it was a photo from Naked Boys. Anyone hear anything about it?

  2. Saw this evening…….meh, don’t waste your money. Glad I had a discount ticket from TDF. First of all, David Hernandez is no longer in this production – if he ever was???? This production is about as pared down as it can get and still charge admission. Reminded me of the plays I did in the backyard as kid and used a sheet as a curtain. When I first saw this play decades ago there were 8 naked boys – one my favorite scenes was when an audience “plant” was taken from his seat and stipped on stage. The last NYC production had, I think, 6 boys. This show had 4. Less than an hour and zero props. Theater still filled with giddy girls.

    1. David Hernandez was in the show but only until April 29th, when I saw it a few weeks ago there were five guys on stage, I guess they are downsizing even more. Soon it will be Naked Boy Singing lol
